A dozen or so IWCEers met in London on 21st September, listening to interesting talks, having a lively and friendly discussion.
We agreed to draft an IWCE Manifesto, and update the draft in Swansea
in October. To find out more, or express an interest in helping with the drafting process, come to one of our future meetings (see below) or contact us on iwceducation@yahoo.co.uk. The idea is to publish the manifesto as a pamphlet, and use it as a guideline for our activites. It will of course be open for debate and revision. We will also produce a “boiled down” version which will form the basis of an introductory leaflet.
We also agreed to:
* step up updating the website and our new Facebook page.
* look into booking stalls/fringe meetings at union conferences next year, including NUT and ATL
* start offering speakers to trades council meetings to introduce ourselves and explain what we do
* put together a list of available IWCE speakers
* support the New Ruskin Archives project
Our next meetings will be in Swansea on 12th October and Newcastle on 30th November. We are looking at holding meetings in Birmingham in the new year and Edinburgh next summer. To express an interest or for more information, email us.
